History:
The zurna (zournas) is a double reed wind instrument played in several Greek
regions. It is usually accompanied by a davul (bass drum) in Greek folk music

It is called zournas in Macedonia, Thrace, west Roumeli and Mytilene island.
In all the other parts of Greece it is called karamouza or pipiza

In northern Greece (Macedonia, Thrace) the zournas is usually between 40cm to
60cm. In the central north Greece it can vary from 20cm to 40cm and it is in
higher pitch

The need for high pressure makes it suitable for playing without stop using
circular breathing
