Following the tradition of the master Cuban conga makers, these drums are
carefully crafted from reclaimed wine barrels made out of quarter sawn french
white oak.
This Tumbadora has a 12" head and has a Colombian cowhide mounted on it,
sourced from the folks over at Tambores Barranquilla. These heads are thicker
and produce a much warmer and richer sound than standard water buffalo heads.
We use a rope tuning system similar to a Djembe or an Ashiko drum and can be
tuned using a Mali weave.
Our drums are hand-made in San Diego, CA by a two person team. All of our wood
is reclaimed and each instrument has a unique personality. Our hides are
sourced from small scale producers and often show natural variations which are
not removed by standardized processing. As a result you may find that the
instrument is particularly sensitive to the weather, temperature and humidity.
These are all qualities we feel enhance the experience of owning and playing a
unique craft instrument.
