Tzouras is an instrument that came in Greece from the Greek immigrants of
Minor Asia in the early 1900's
It is consider the medium version of the bouzouki “family”, between the
bouzouki and the baglamas
It is used for “Rebetico” music.
Rebetico is the “Greek blues”, music that was made most of the times from the
players themselves, and used to talk about life itself, romance, crimes, drugs
etc
It is also main instrument and can either be used for solo or rhythm
It has three double (3) strings, six (6) in total, tuned in the same octave as
the three-string bouzouki
Due to the medium size of it, has a more metallic sound that defines it,
almost as a banjo.
The tuning is Dd-aa-dd. The top strings are in octave apart (D string) and the
two bottom strings are in unison (A & D string)
