Dimensions: 15" tall x 22" long x 9" wide. The Ilimba Drum is a traditional
ceremonial instrument originating in Congo, Zimbabwe, Angola, Zambia and
Mozambique. When the natural tone of the stave of wood (Key) is matched with
the natural tone of the column of air defined by the resonating vessel the
sound is dynamic. In this case the musical note is G. The frame is burned
design and painted with acrylic on Basswood with Black Walnut support arms for
the Spanish Cedar Key. The Painted Gourd resonator is secured to the frame with
Ivory Coast Goat Skin. Cow Leather strap suspends the Key. The pair of Mallets
are village made in Ghana.
